Acer circinatum 'Pacific Purple'
Pacific Purple Vine Maple
Acer circinatum ‘Pacific Purple’ is a striking selection of vine maple prized for its deep purple to burgundy foliage and graceful, multi-stemmed habit. Leaves emerge rich reddish-purple in spring, hold dark tones well through summer (especially in light shade), and turn brilliant crimson to scarlet in fall.
Like the species, it develops a broad, spreading, often multi-trunk form with gently arching branches, giving it a natural, woodland character. The rounded, lobed leaves provide a soft texture and excellent layered interest beneath taller trees.
‘Pacific Purple’ performs best in partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soils. It is well adapted to cooler climates and appreciates protection from hot afternoon sun. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8.
Mature size:
Height: 15–20 ft
Width: 15–25 ft
Ideal for woodland gardens, specimen planting, naturalized landscapes, and understory use, Acer circinatum ‘Pacific Purple’ is valued for its rich foliage color, graceful form, and dependable seasonal interest.
